RIVER CROSSING: I WANT TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOU is a public art project by artist Joshua Sofaer, commissioned by the cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. The nomination process, renaming of the public docks, and installation of light boxes, is supported by the cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento.
Artist
Joshua Sofaer is the artist behind River Crossing: I want to communicate with you. His work is concerned with modes of collaboration and participation.
Often with an irreverent sense of humor, he plays with established forms of production, appropriating and reconfiguring the chat show, competition, lecture, or museum display.
He acts as a curator, producer or director of a broad range of projects, including large-scale events, intimate performances, and publications.
Judges
A panel of judges selected two names from the submitted nominations.
Leticia Ordaz, a literacy advocate and reporter for KCRA 3, is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the California Chicano News Media Association.
Jess Milbourn loves ice cream and half-jokingly insists it holds the solution to the majority of life’s stresses. He owns West Sacramento community staple, Devil May Care, a chef-driven, small batch, craft ice cream and frozen treat shop.
Maya Wallace is a Performance Manager at the California Department of Justice, serves on the Sacramento Arts Commission, and supports the growth and development of Sacramento’s diverse arts community.
Felicia Weatherly is a music teacher at River City High School and a suicide prevention activist.
Yeshahyah Yisrael, a poet, emcee, and activist raised in Sacramento, coordinates self-care efforts in the Sacramento community through workshops and community events with the Sol Life Media team at the Sol Collective Arts and Cultural Center.
