River Crossing Dedication

You're invited to the River Crossing Dedication hosted by the Sacramento Office of Arts and Culture to celebrate the completion of the River Crossing public art project and pay tribute to the two women, Isabel S. Naranjo and Etenesh Zeleke, whose names were selected for the Sacramento and West Sacramento docks as part of this project.

You will have an opportunity to view the artwork, hear remarks from City representatives and project stakeholders, and listen to the chosen nominations read by the nominators, Krystal R. Moreno and Selam Bekele. The event will take place outdoors in the evening, allowing attendees to view the artworks while they are illuminated. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

About the Artwork

Artist, Joshua Sofaer’s River Crossing: I want to communicate with you invited people to nominate someone to have the public dock in Sacramento or West Sacramento named in their honor. The culmination of the project is two large-scale light box installations that spell out the new names of the docks in the international language of maritime signals. These light box installations signal across the river between two cities and represent our collective need to honor the people who are most meaningful to us.

Date: Thursday, January 18, 2024
